Broughty Ferry Old (Fisherman's) Graveyard

Broughty Ferry Old Graveyard.

All that is left of a pre-reformation chapel dependant on the church of Monifieth is this burial ground It is listed as a grade III monument under the Town and Country Planning Act. the threshold of the entrance gate is inscribed "repeared in 1780". the ground is enclosed on three sides, the entrance is from Fisher Street at the river front and a bit difficult to find. The gates are usually locked. It is opened for the annual graveyard tours in September for the Friends of Dundee City Archives.

The earliest tombstone is dated 1689 and the latest is dated 1861, about that year the ground was closed to internments - the churchyard ground at St Aiden's Church was opened in 1831 for internments.

Sydney Cramer made a list of 62 inscriptions in 1953 and the following numeration with some corrections and additional stones are enumerated with an a,b,c.
